One aspect of this topic is \u201cThe Laws of the Harvest\u201d. Just as farming is a process, so is developing leaders.<\/p><p>The Laws of the Harvest are ancient and known by every farmer on the planet\u2014farmers live these laws every day, every season, and every year. It takes time for plants to grow. It takes time for people to grow. First plant, then harvest. \nHR cannot expect leaders to \u201cappear\u201d and then develop them. So, if you plant a lot of seeds, then you\u2019ll get a bigger return. If you plant a few seeds, then you get a smaller return.\nIf we talk about developing leaders, remember that leaders come from the ranks of line personnel. So, if you develop only a few of your employees in leadership skills (communication, feedback, critical thinking, etc.), then you will have a small pool to draw from when you look to move people into leadership positions. If you want to have more leaders, you need to widen your development pipeline.\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0df7f7d elementor-view-stacked elementor-shape-circle elementor-position-block-start elementor-mobile-position-block-start elementor-widget elementor-widget-icon-box\" data-id=\"0df7f7d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"icon-box.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-icon-box-wrapper\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-icon-box-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t<span  class=\"elementor-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t<i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"ri ri-number-6\"><\/i>\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-icon-box-content\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-icon-box-title\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span  >\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tYou reap the full harvest only if you don\u2019t give up.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-icon-box-description\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThis applies to sowing (planting) as well as reaping (harvesting). \nDeveloping leaders is like turning a flywheel\u2014it\u2019s very hard to get going, but once it\u2019s going, it drives further movement. When we were children playing on a merry-go-round, we would push and push, and it got turning. Then we would stop and it would slowly stop, which meant that we had to get it going again.\nIf we start developing people then slow down (or stop) once we have a few, then we will have a moment when we have to start all over again. Or worse, we stop developing our people once they have a few skills\u2026but not enough skills. We promote people and expect them to be able to delegate, communicate, and proactively manage their people. How? If there is no investment, why do we expect them to manage people?\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6929b92 elementor-view-stacked elementor-shape-circle elementor-position-block-start elementor-mobile-position-block-start elementor-widget elementor-widget-icon-box\" data-id=\"6929b92\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"icon-box.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-icon-box-wrapper\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-icon-box-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t<span  class=\"elementor-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t<i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"ri ri-number-8\"><\/i>\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-icon-box-content\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-icon-box-title\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span  >\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tYou cannot do anything about this year\u2019s harvest\u2014but you can do something about next year\u2019s.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-icon-box-description\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s the late fall. You realize you didn\u2019t do all you could to get the harvest in There\u2019s now nothing more you can do about that. But, you can do something about next year. \nSo, if you\u2019re reading this and realize that behind on your leadership development, there\u2019s nothing you can really do about that. What you need to focus on is moving forward\u2014deciding what you can do for the coming year. \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-66869f7 elementor-view-stacked elementor-shape-circle elementor-position-block-start elementor-mobile-position-block-start elementor-widget elementor-widget-icon-box\" data-id=\"66869f7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"icon-box.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-icon-box-wrapper\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-icon-box-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t<span  class=\"elementor-icon\">\n\t\t\t\t<i aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"ri ri-number-9\"><\/i>\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-icon-box-content\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-icon-box-title\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span  >\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWeeds come on their own.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-icon-box-description\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tNo matter how much work a farmer puts into sowing seeds and planting crops, there will be weeds. \nDeveloping leaders has it\u2019s own \u201cweeds\u201d. The process of moving from \u201cteammate\u201d to \u201cteam leader\u201d and the conflicts this produces. Conflicts from injured egos, poor communication, mistakes we make and bad choices we make. If you\u2019re going to develop leaders, then you need to accept this\u2014it\u2019s part of the process of growing leaders. So, rather than trying to avoid weeds, think about how you can manage them and use them to help your leaders develop further. \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d7a94af e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"d7a94af\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3e7e792 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3e7e792\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>And those are <strong>9 of the Laws of the Harvest<\/strong>. We will look at each Law in more detail in subsequent articles. To make these very practical, we need some actual examples.
